Bottoms Up?

A San Jose State study has determined that drinkers earn more money. What? What. Some of us are still waiting to collect.  Surely my love of beer will someday grant me the lavish lifestyle I crave.  Or is the study flawed?  Perhaps they meant corporate lawyers who drink earn more money. This seems more in line with reality. Or maybe, like, Amstel Light drinkers. Or briefcase-toting scotch fetishists. Did they survey the purchasers of Mad Dog or various malt liquors?  Night Train? Or even the beer snobs lined up at the Toronado (oh sweet Mecca), spending alarming portions of this week’s paycheck on the finest of ales — are they blind to their own future penthouses? Private jets? Helipads?

When I do get rich, the first round’s on me. Incidentally, this whole entry was just a ruse enabling my use of the word “helipad.”

BoingBoing has been going Marmaduke crazy these past few days, and just in case you aren’t a regular visitor and in the interest of continuing the blog tradition of stealing/recycling, take a peek at these:

Marmaduke Explained
Project to Make Marmaduke Less Unfunny

Or perhaps you want to dig deeper.  The “Comic Strip Doctor” sees something a bit more insidious in our K-9 friend’s adventures:

But Marmaduke is uniquely psychosexual; the dog is a huge, lumbering id waving its monster lipstick-phallus throughout the tightly-buttoned Winslow household while tension simmers just below the surface

Or perhaps you want politics mixed in with your giant comic dogs: Marmaduke Can Vote.

Tell me, Gentle Readers:  how do you feel about Marmaduke?

Today’s SF Gate contains this remarkable tale of Man Bites Bear, in which a Chinese migrant worker gathers his courage over much beer, climbs into the Panda cage at the Beijing zoo, and proceeds to go about acquiring a furry new friend all wrong.

My fren Matt is currently wandering around Southeast Asia, the lucky bastard. Goat meat, potential transvestites, formerly respected acquaintences who give in to the sex trade, moped crashes, a nightclub called “Darfur” — or is it? It’s all here.  Take a peek; get your travel jones on.  Got another friend in Patagonia, too, but don’t know if she’s the blogging blogger with a blog type.  My Peru buzz has well worn off.  Curse you, backpack — lying useless in the closet!

Put up several recent reviews in the Output section. Helvetia and Oakley Hall are up there on the best of ‘06 so far list, without question.  Great albums.  Need to tweak that section a bit, and still need PDFs of all of them, but I thought I’d share anyway.
