Big Brother Is You Watching

This was an intriguing bit I found on Engadget. A Beatles fan in Texas was watching a webcam of a Liverpool street of some Beatle importance and witnessed a robbery in progress.  He called the cops. In Liverpool. And bang, the perps — to use the lingo — were caught in the act. Interesting that the most innocuous of prying eyes, the webcam, led to their capture. This guy sat and watched the crime take place at 15 frames per second and had the moral resolve/intuition/etc. to make the call. I guess you’d have to. Think on it.

“Hats for bats keep bats warm.” Ah, the wisdom of Major League’s Pedro Serrano. And he’s right. Although he was talking about baseball bats, the same is true for our winged rodent friends. Sometimes they get cold. Especially around Halloween. It takes the insight of a 9-year old poet extraordinaire to illustrate this. I give you my early masterpiece, entitled “Halloween Night.” Click to enlarge:

Going through the sentimental pile for our recent garage sale reminded me of a few gems I had yet to digitize. I know some of you four readers are Voltron fans; I just know it.  So was my 3rd grade class when I moved away.  As an aside, I have to say my second least favorite teacher of all time was Mrs. Fitzpatrick. Opening this card, I see that although my family was moving to Spain, she wrote “Auf Wiedersehen.”  Typical.  Fitzpatrick, you oblique ass-head. Why teach children if you hate them? She was a mean one. Anyway. Click on the thumbnail to see maybe the best card I’ve ever received.  I mean, look at it.  Voltron. Nothing says “we will miss you” like Voltron. In fact, that’s exactly what he says.

Laughing Squid has coverage of a zombie attack that occurred this weekend, and several photos. I missed it due to a (successful) garage sale. It’s a shame we didn’t have any zombie customers. But y’know, it’s events like these (and there are plenty) that make me love the appreciation of the absurd in this city. Senses of humor and the will to be silly are not quashed by ever-rising rents.  And the cherry on top, the MVP award — the guy who showed up with a protest sign reading “God Hates Zombies.”
